The "Reading Guide" and "Key Points" for this chapter were summarized by an AI editor based on the main text below; they are not things Mike said during the lecture. The main text comes from Mike's commentary, and the blockquotes are Seth's original words (the portions Mike read aloud).
Introduction
This session begins with the idea that the past and future of dreams are created simultaneously, pointing out that the past is created by the present, and the present is created by the future. The forward projection of the senses creates the illusion of linear time. Using the wave-particle duality of subatomic particles, it explains that objects are merely versions or traces of energy action, and that invisible particles can appear in multiple places at once. This is used to explain the pseudo-objects and counterpart persons in dreams: the original self crosses realities and becomes multiple versions, each coming from the same psychic pool while maintaining individuality.
Key Points of This Chapter
- Dreams expand from the present into the past and the future; once constructed, dreams possess their own history and storylines.
- The past is created by the present, and the present is also created by the future; the forward projection of the senses creates the illusion of linear time.
- Subatomic particles appear in two behavioral versions, wave and particle; people usually perceive only their particle state, and the unseen portion forms dreams and pseudo-objects.
- The source self spans realities and manifests as multiple versions, each tinted by the system in which it resides; the self you know is only one material trace of it in space and time.
- People alive in the same period have counterparts who come from the same psychic pool, cooperating closely on biological and spiritual levels while each maintains individuality.
Main Text
Hello everyone, I am Mike. Today I will continue sharing with you Section 722 of Volume 2 of the Seth book The "Unknown" Reality. The title of this section has a typo; it should be "False Objects and Neurological Ghosts: You and Your Counterparts." This session began on Wednesday, November 27, 1974, at 9:18 p.m.
Seth began by saying:
I have told you that when you are in a particular dream, take a moment to try to discover what happens to a dream there before you experience it.
This is the suggestion given to us in the previous exercise (Exercise 16): before the dream has been experienced, first ask yourself what this dream might be and what you will experience, and try to predict it. Indeed, it is true that you create your own dreams, there is no problem with that. But you really only focus on certain parts of the creations of your dream. You do create your dream, but you only pay attention to certain parts of the objects in the dream, without having an awareness of the whole dream.
Even within the dream state, the present will also expand into its own past and future, all within the dream. The present in the dream will also expand into the dream's past and the dream's future, so within the dream, the present, past, and future also occur simultaneously. In those terms, once you have constructed the dream, the dream has its own landscape, its own experience, its own historical past. That is to say, within the dream, although you have only created a dream present, for that dream, it must have a past and a future.
The example Teacher Xiyu gave in his commentary is very good. For instance, when we watch Star Wars: it has prequels, the main saga, sequels one, two, three, and so on, but it does not necessarily play in chronological order. What we may watch first is the main film, and the later installments are all prequels, pre-prequels, and pre-pre-prequels. Its order is not arranged according to the order you understand.
Simply put, you create a scene in a dream, and the dream itself is alive; it must arrange an entire storyline for that scene. In other words, you only experience one scene in the dream. Although this dream was created by you, you only feel the dream's present that you perceive in the moment; the dream's past and future both escape your awareness. This is the first point Seth wanted to make.
Although you do not have to experience the past of that dream, as soon as you turn your attention in the direction of the dream's past, the dream's past will become obvious. So any impression in the mind is not merely printed or written in the medium of space and time; they have a greater dimensionality, a greater dimension. He has said this repeatedly before: any image in your mind has a greater dimensional space; it is not just the portion of the image you perceive. It is richer than that, thicker than that, more textured than that.
He said:
Past and future ripple outward from any event, making that event somewhat thicker than it appears.
The image in your memory, you think it is a single, static event. In fact, that event is richer and thicker, because that event is not dead at that point in the past; it expands outward at its event point, expanding into its own versions, its own storylines. But we generally cannot perceive this.
Broadly speaking, the past is indeed created by the present. He has repeatedly mentioned this viewpoint before: your past is created by your present. Then is our present created by our future? Yes. Whether biologically speaking, you are pulled along by the blueprint of your cells, or psychically speaking, you are pulled along by the blueprint of your psyche, your present is determined by your future, and your past is determined by your present. Such a process, within your system of reality, does not seem like a fact at all; it is completely incomprehensible.
We can say that our future is created by the present; everyone can understand that. But when you say that our present is created by the future, we cannot understand that. We cannot imagine that space-time can work in reverse, that future people can influence the present; we simply cannot understand that.
To blow your mind wide open, you can also look at some movies about time travel. There is a movie called Deja Vu1; you can search for it. There are many, many movies like this, where the future influences the present, where the future self and the present self overlap, and so on; that is very interesting. There is also 12 Monkeys2, which will absolutely blow your mind; it essentially breaks humanity's fixed belief about space and time. You can search for it online.
Why do we think this is not real? Because our senses always project forward; we always project forward along the direction of time. You project a forward motion onto events—our senses are not static; their direction of motion has a forward orientation. We cast our forward-moving sensory direction onto the world, and we feel that events are all created from the present into the future, and that the present is also created from the past. This is an illusion of ours. This is very difficult for most people to accept.
However:
Subatomic particles appear in your present, rippling outward into the dimensions of your system, creating their own traces. Then scientists try to observe those traces.
Among these particles smaller than atoms, they appear in our present, rippling outward into our physical dimension like ripples, creating their own traces in the physical world, and then our scientists try to observe these traces.
In certain instances, inadvertently, your scientists have almost observed the birth of a time effect in your system.
That is to say, in the process of observing subatomic particles, scientists seem to have detected that the time effect is an illusion of the human self.
If you do not understand this, you can look up the most central concept in quantum mechanics: wave-particle duality. Wave-particle duality originated from an experiment in 19053, and improvements have been made ever since. The most critical part is the subsequent improved experiments on wave-particle duality—later physicists conducted many improved experiments, and one of them overturned the understanding of physics: the future can change the past, time can reverse, and a future decision can change the past state of a particle4. You can search for the later improved experiments on wave-particle duality. That experiment was extremely precise and rigorous, and the design was extraordinarily ingenious. The result of the experiment was: a past particle is determined by its future observation behavior as to whether it presents particle nature or wave form.
This overturned our understanding. We always thought: when it is observed, whatever state it is in, that is understandable; when it is not observed, it is in wave form, and when observed, it manifests particle state. Humans could still somewhat understand that, although it had already overturned our understanding. Because humans believed that the core of scientific experiments would not change with the subjective participation of the observer; the experimental results should be fixed, unique, and unchangeable. How could the result change just because someone observes it or not? This is like looking at a chick: when you look at it, it is a chick; when you do not look at it, it is a duck. How is that possible? But the experimental results showed exactly that. The most devastating discovery was that scientists found that your later observation behavior determines what it was earlier.
Then Seth said:
Since your brains are composed of cells made of atoms and molecules—because atoms and molecules themselves are constructed of those invisible particles—then in your terms, your memories are already structured by the biological mechanisms that make them possible.
Your brain is made of molecules and atoms forming brain cells, brain cells forming neurons, and neurons forming memory; this is human understanding. According to this reasoning, should not your memories be caused by these biological mechanisms? That is to say, only with the existence of these molecules, atoms, and brain cells can your memories exist? Our scientists think so. But the most amazing thing is that after death you still possess a kind of memory; there is still memory after death. Although it does not operate through the physical organism as you understand it, that memory is no longer related to your brain. Many people who have had near-death experiences after brain death still have memory and consciousness when they return; all their sensory systems remain unchanged. Earlier I told the story of Dr. Alexander, the neurosurgeon5; you can look up his materials: with brain death, how could there still be responses? After death, how can there still be memories from before death? Where does this memory come from? If memory resides in something material, on a material carrier equivalent to a hard drive or memory chip, then without that material carrier, why does memory still exist? This is something we cannot understand.
So Seth said that there are some invisible substances, invisible particles here, and those are the most important, but we ordinarily do not recognize them.
Psychologically speaking, then:
While you are alive, your memory follows a pattern from past to present. So you seem unable to understand that, in a certain way, any present event can bring about the recollection of a similar event that occurred before. In fact, every event is actually happening simultaneously.
Because when we are alive, it is a process from past to future, but what you cannot understand is why, in some way that we humans cannot comprehend, any event in our present can bring about the recollection of a similar event that happened before. In fact, every event in our present is composed of memories of the past; you cannot deny this. If you carefully observe human consciousness, you will discover something very interesting: one of the core points of human consciousness is that it is composed of the material of memory. If your memory were wiped clean, it would be very difficult for you to organize a cognition of the existing world.
Simply put, every event you experience in the present will trigger a chain reaction of memories of something or some things in the past. Your perception and cognition of present events are formed together by this chain of feelings from past memories. We think that the past only has an influence on our present emotions, but what you do not know is that you also have an influence on that past event. Not only do past events influence your present, but you also influence past events; they are in such a mutually influencing relationship.
In the dream state, events are not constrained by the time you understand, and this can be more obvious. In the three-dimensional world you may not see it, it may not be obvious, but in dreams this event becomes obvious instead, because it is not constrained by our time.
If you are alert and curious while dreaming, then you will catch yourself simultaneously creating a dream's past and future.
You seem to be creating only a dream's present, but in fact, in the very instant of creating the dream's present, you also simultaneously create the dream's past and future.
Scientists know that under certain circumstances, a wave can appear as a particle, and the behavior of a particle can appear like a wave.
So the moment as you understand it is like the wave of a particle as experienced, for example, like little bubbles, one bursting and another forming.
After we humans extended wave-particle duality to the material world, we previously thought that only objects as small as electrons, photons, and atoms have wave-particle duality—that is, they have both wave nature and particle nature, existing in two states simultaneously. Actually, that is not the case. Scientists later discovered that at scales ten thousand times larger than atoms or even larger, at the scale of molecules or macromolecules, wave-particle duality still exists6, which left human scientists baffled. Humans said that an atom having wave-particle duality, I can tentatively understand as it being too small; at that scale it has behaviors different from classical physics, and we understand that. But when it gets bigger, for example, the size of a grain of sand, does sand have wave-particle duality? Certainly not; sand is purely particle-like, always like a grain. This is the scientists' understanding.
But scientists have not been idle in the more than one hundred years since the discovery of the wave-particle duality experiment; they have been conducting similar experiments all along, constantly challenging a limit: at what size does an object no longer have wave-particle duality? Later they discovered that this thing can become quite large. Then there was something even more frightening: in a millimeter-scale tiny oil droplet—this oil droplet, no matter how small, is countless times larger than an atom—under specific conditions it exhibited the same characteristics and properties of wave-particle duality7. Scientists were somewhat devastated: it turns out that it is not only at the atomic level that quantum states exist; larger objects also have quantum states. Then by extension, is it possible that the tables, chairs, and benches of our physical world, and even the human body, are also in quantum states, but our instruments simply cannot observe them? This is something scientists dare not think too deeply about. The largest objects directly confirmed so far are only at the molecular level, or even the macromolecular level, exhibiting wave-particle duality at scales tens of thousands of times larger than atoms. The oil droplet experiment only exhibited one property of wave-particle duality, not true wave-particle duality. You can look up related materials; Teacher Xiyu will also introduce this in his commentary.
He actually wanted to use a vivid example to illustrate: like a little bubble, one bursts and another emerges. Would you say these two bubbles are the same bubble? No, one bursts and another emerges; they are certainly not the same bubble. But from a certain perspective, that bubble is always there, but it bursts and regenerates, regenerates and bursts. You can understand particle nature this way: if you regard a bubble as a particle, then the wave energy within it will cause this bubble to be continuously produced. You see this bubble and think it is just a small particle, but in fact this bubble is constantly flickering in and out of existence. What truly gives birth to this bubble is the wave energy behind it, causing this bubble to continuously display a particle trace, or merely a materialized imprint, in our world.
Subatomic particles sometimes behave like waves as well. In fact, usually only when they behave like particles are they perceived.
That is to say, only when they present the particle state can we humans perceive them; when they appear in wave form, we humans cannot perceive them. In other words, these objects smaller than atoms can only be perceived by us when they are displayed in the particle state; when they are in other forms, we cannot perceive their existence. Of course, with the development of technology, humans can now also observe them when they are in energy state or wave state. But besides the energy state and wave state, are there other states? Of course there are more than these two states. It only shows us humans these two states that we are capable of observing. If you have studied the theories of the Seth material, you will know that it is not just these two states. Those many other forms are things that humans currently have no way to understand or explore, because we humans can only explore exactly these two states.
Just as humans previously could not discover its wave state and could only discover its particle state, later we discovered that it has a wave form. That is to say, when a so-called substance exists only like a particle, we can perceive its existence; when it does not exist like a particle, we cannot perceive it. But you cannot say it does not exist; you can only say that you cannot perceive its existence.
Scientists think of atoms as particles, and their wave-like characteristics go unobserved. On other levels of reality, atoms present themselves in wave-like form.
In our physical world, atoms present themselves in the particle state; while in other spaces and times, atoms present themselves in wave form.
Then, subjectively speaking:
You will think of your own thoughts as waves rather than particles.
You ordinarily feel that your thoughts, your ideas, are waves, certainly not particles, certainly not something material. However, on the dream level of reality, those waves scatter into particles. In the dream state, the brain waves that do not have material form in the three-dimensional world become materialized, becoming like particles in a three-dimensional world, truly existing. So it can be said that, from your viewpoint, they form a false material—"false object" is the word in the title of this section, called pseudo object in English, a false thing, a fake object, something that looks real but is not real.
When you dream, you accept that reality as real. Only after waking do the objects in the dream appear unreal or imaginary.
The nervous system itself is biologically equipped to perceive various stages of matter.
Your nervous system can perceive the particle state and can also perceive the wave state. But our outer senses—eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body—can only perceive things in the material state. And when you are dreaming, certain nerve impulse pathways that are in between are utilized. That is to say, when dreaming, there are some nerve impulses that are neither purely material nor non-material, existing in an intermediate state, and they are caught by you, and then they become your dream.
From your viewpoint, these are alternative pathways, pathways of probability. In fact, you have other pathways as well. For example, during the day we use the materialized pathway, while the dream is a completely different way from the daytime, another way of perceiving it through materialization, called an alternative pathway. In dreams, they allow you to perceive as physical objects the things that cannot be detected in the waking state. Because your body has this ability, it can perceive these existences that we consider non-material—they are actually also a kind of material existence, but we humans consider them non-material.
Once again:
From your waking point of view, these other neurological perceptions can be thought of as ghostly or trace-like methods of perception.
These neurological perceptions in dreams can be regarded as ghostly or trace-like: after an elephant walks by, it leaves footprints on the ground, but those footprints are not the elephant. When awake, you ordinarily do not use these things; we only perceive what we consider the real material world, and we cannot perceive those things between the material and the non-material.
However, they are utilized to some extent in daydreams. When daydreaming, you will have this feeling. In certain altered states of consciousness, you can also utilize them, such as entering a meditative state, a trance state, or a hypnotic state; these are all other states of consciousness. Thus you perceive events that have not actually occurred within your space-time structure as real or nearly real. Hypnosis is a typical example: it is not real, but you also know that it feels real or nearly real; it is so real.
This is us utilizing the part of our physical sensory system that we ordinarily do not know about. Just like dreaming, we use our sensory system in dreams; in the waking state we can also utilize it, but the premise is that you cannot be in the normal state of consciousness; you can only feel it in those altered states of consciousness.
The dream world is as organized as your own world.
The dream world, like the world of your real life, has its own organization. But in your waking state, you do not focus on those inner organizations. After you wake up, you do not care about the inner logic and structure of the dream.
Your dream images exist, and they are as real as tables and chairs. They are built up of particles, invisible only in the waking state.
The tables, chairs, benches, castles, and villas built in dreams are constructed of the same particles, except that those particles are ones we cannot perceive in the waking state. But those particles, in the dream state, can still be perceived by our bodies. So the dream world is also built of particles, except that they are different particles from those in our three-dimensional world—they are particles of thought, particles of ideas, particles of consciousness; let us define them that way.
And scientists:
Are beginning to study the characteristics of invisible particles.
Scientists have been studying these invisible particles all along, but they remain only at the level of mathematical calculation and theory; they cannot be discovered in the laboratory, and have never been found.
They seem to violate the principles of space and time.
They completely do not conform to all the laws of our classical physics, and are even completely opposite. But this is precisely the reason they form the basis of dream images—precisely because they are opposite to our three-dimensional space-time, they appear in the dream state, and instead cannot appear in the three-dimensional world. This is also the reason objects in dreams can appear and disappear. In our three-dimensional world, you cannot be like Sun Wukong, conjuring things into existence one moment and making them vanish the next; but in dreams you indeed can. Everyone is Sun Wukong, changing into whatever they want. That is because those objects are composed of particles invisible to us.
In your physical universe, such particles are invisible ingredients.
Only 4% of our universe can be perceived by us humans8; the remaining 96% we do not know what it is. You can check any source—Wikipedia, Baidu Baike, anything—humanity's exploration of the universe: everything we can currently observe, including all matter and energy combined, accounts for only 4% of the universe that we humans can observe. Then what is the remaining 96%? We do not know. We speculate that it is dark matter and dark energy, but that is only speculation; no one has ever seen dark matter.
So they can be inferred, but have never been directly contacted—we can calculate them mathematically. How was this 4% calculated? According to the current gravity of the universe or its calculations, what its mass should be; but it was actually discovered that its mass is different from what was calculated, so we know that there are many things we do not know, cannot feel, and cannot measure.
What can be calculated mathematically, to some degree, they are latent.
Remember this sentence of Seth's; it is very meaningful. It may forever exist in a quantum state; only when it needs to be determined, or when it needs to be materialized, does it manifest; otherwise, it exists in a way that we humans cannot perceive. He used the word "latent"; latent means I am here but you cannot see me.
However:
In other physical realities, their characteristics are dominant.
In other spaces and times, those things invisible in the three-dimensional world become truly existent, as real as the mountains, rivers, and streams in our three-dimensional world. And:
It is not the properties of the visible particles you see that are dominant.
In our world, visible particles are the main things composing our material world; while in another space-time, it is composed of invisible particles, which we do not understand.
So dream images exist in a different range of matter. Matter has visible and invisible, perceivable and imperceivable; they are all matter. Dreams are composed of those material existences that we cannot perceive in the three-dimensional world.
Many of these invisible particles, such as units of consciousness and EE units, can appear in more than one place at the same time.
This is a point that makes many people break down. This is truly another fact that baffles the matter-oriented brain. Our brain is only oriented toward matter, and cannot understand how a material thing can be here and there at the same time. For example, a computer that is both at A and at B, both in this room and in another room; this is something we humans cannot figure out no matter how hard we try. Because our brain only faces one material world, and is not oriented toward its quantum world. And the essence of this world is composed of quantum states; the characteristic of the quantum state is that it is both here and there, which is the most basic state of the quantum state.
Because:
It sees only one world, in which objects stay where they belong.
We only see one material world.
However, basically speaking:
Each manifestation of such a particle is its own version.
This point is also very important. Everything he says here is very important; although it may lean toward physics, it is very helpful for you to understand the essence of this world. This particle that is both at point A and point B, when it appears at point A and when it appears at point B, is not the same particle. Although in essence it is the same, once it appears, you can regard it as a new version of the original particle. For A it is a new particle, and for B it is also a new particle. It is not considered the same particle being both here and there, but rather different versions. Because:
It is somewhat altered by its own position.
Its position, this position of it in space and time, determines the properties of this particle. But this position is in quotation marks; it is not a position in our three-dimensional space-time--where in a dream is there three-dimensional space-time? Where in consciousness space is there three-dimensional space-time? It refers to a position in consciousness space, or we can say a position in the inner world. You do not need to get too hung up on this position, because without this word there is no other word to explain it. But do not misunderstand the concept of the word "position" itself. You can imagine this position as different space-times, different frequency points, different fields, different dimensions.
Why do we say it is one of its own versions? Because every time it appears in a reality, it is influenced by the field, frequency, space, or dimension in which that reality is located. Whatever reality this original particle appears in, it carries the properties and characteristics of that reality, and it is no longer the same as the original particle.
For example, when a group of units of consciousness (CUs), EE units, is in our physical world, through electromagnetic energy units it manifests a particle in our three-dimensional world, and it conforms to the special conditions of our three-dimensional world. When this same group of units of consciousness is embodied in the dream state, it also works through electromagnetic energy units, but it does not materialize; it does not manifest that particle state of our physical state. Instead, it appears in your dream as a kind of emotion, as a kind of energy. The same group of consciousness energy units--the dream particle manifested in the dream and the particle in your three-dimensional world are not the same; they are not one kind of particle. That is why they are called different versions, but their source is one.
The human self can also appear in several places at once:
Each of these appearances is subtly changed; every appearance subtly changes the human particles. Therefore, each appearance is a version of the original self, and in those terms, the original self never appears elsewhere as itself.
This sentence is very profound. When you appear in different space-times, the you that appears in each different space-time is not the original you; each is a version of the original you. There is an Earth version, an eighteenth-century version, a nineteenth-century version, a dream version, an alien-planet version, and a consciousness-space version. That is to say, you can never see its true body; what you see are all its different versions. What is the true body? Sorry, you cannot see it. What you can see is already changed, already manifested after interacting with the reality in which it is located.
But this does not affect its self-recognition; it still considers itself to be itself. But at the same time, it also considers the self in its present moment to have an inner connection with its original self, yet they are not one and the same. Just remember this sentence: you can never see the true body; what you see are all divided forms, and every divided form is a different version.
When you look at an electron--assuming you could see it--you actually cannot see the electron at all. You are observing the track and path of something entirely different, and that appearance is called an electron.
When humans use instruments to capture an electron's track and motion, they can only capture its track and trace, never the electron itself. This is not a matter of fast or slow; it is not that our human instruments are not fast enough and cannot keep up with the electron's speed. It is not that problem. It is that you can never get at the electron itself; you can only get at the way it exists in your physical world--or rather, its track, its path.
This is a very typical example: what we see is actually a shadow of the thing's original reality; we can never see the thing as it originally is.
So:
The self you know is a material trace, or an intrusion, in time and space, of an original self that has never appeared.
"Intrusion" means that you enter a lower dimension from a higher dimension; this is called intrusion. The self you think you are is actually a material, bodily trace of an original self that has never appeared, in our time and space, or a materialized manifestation, an intrusion, a projection. In a certain sense, you, like the electron, exist like a ghost image. From this perspective, we humans and electrons are the same, existing like a ghost image; we are never the true body here; we are always a divided form of the true body here. In other words, we are always a focus of consciousness of the true body here. We take this focus of consciousness, this divided form, as real and as the self--that is the core of the problem.
That unknown self:
spans realities, stepping in and out of them in its own creative versions, taking on the characteristics of the systems in which they appear, and the qualities belonging to those environments.
That true self, that unknown self, that original self always spans realities; it is above realities, not inside any one reality. The different versions it creates go in and out of different physical realities and different nonphysical realities. Why does it "take on" the characteristics of the system in which it appears? For example, if it appears in the Earth version, it takes on the characteristics of Earth; if it appears on a planet in another galaxy, it takes on the characteristics of that system; if it appears in a dream, it has the special attributes of the dream state.
Waves and particles are another version of the actions taken by energy.
Remember, the core of wave nature and particle nature is energy. It is energy that takes action; what kind of action does it use to manifest a version? When energy operates in this pattern of behavior, it is in particle state; when energy takes another version of behavior, it is in wave state. Whether it is wave state or particle state depends on what kind of behavior the energy uses to operate. This is what we humans have always failed to understand.
We think this world is objective, so how has it become subjective here? Because when we talk about behavior, is that not subjective? When we say something has a behavior, is that not a subjective statement? Yes. Does energy have its own behavior? Differences in its behavior manifest as particle state or wave state, which proves that the essence of this world--this energy--has its own subjectivity. This overturns the very thing scientists most cannot overturn: what they most cannot accept is whether this world exists objectively or is subjectively imagined. If they accepted this, it would overturn all their theoretical frameworks and worldviews, and everything would collapse. Because in the minds of all scientists, this world exists objectively and is not changed by human will. But when they ultimately discover that this world is not objective existence at all, but entirely subjective existence, many scientists will go mad.
To use that analogy:
You flow in the manner of waves into that materially particle-ized version that you call physical existence.
Your essence is a wave state, but it flows into a materially particle-ized version, which is our physical body. The body is a materialized, particle-ized version, but your essence flows in as waves. You flow as waves into a particle-ized, materialized thing, and that is your body. So here you can understand what state your body actually is--your body is a quantum state, to put it bluntly. It is just that in matter it must obey its material state. Your true body, which is in a quantum state, manifests its material existence in the physical world. But do not forget, its essence is quantum. Just as when we see a particle or an atom manifest its particle state, at the same time its energy, its wave state, also exists. Wave state and particle state are only different behavior patterns of energy; the essence is energy.
So in the final analysis, your body is a materialized manifestation of energy. But this energy is not limited to manifesting only in a material way; it can manifest in other ways. I will make this as simple as possible:
When your original self--a part of itself--enters a life in our three-dimensional world from an inner reality, the energy wave carrying it breaks apart. Although this is a very simplified analogy, these words later pointed scientists toward many directions in research and understanding. The energy wave carrying it breaks into more than one particle, forming quite a few conscious particles.
In these terms, these are built up using the handiest available medium--namely, the biological components of matter.
To put it simply: when the original self of our life enters our physical world and wants to manifest, the moment it enters, it splits. Why does it split? Because the energy wave carrying it breaks apart, and after it breaks, the energy inside divides into many particles, and every particle carries consciousness. These particles remain in their physical world and use the resources of our Earth--earth, water, fire, and wind--to directly form a materialized shape, using the biological components of our Earth, the handiest available.
Then:
From the contact point outward, they manifested as different lives.
The contact point is the point where that energy wave broke. From this contact point outward, it scattered into individual lives. So then:
In what you call this century, in what you call this era, there are other counterparts of yourself, living in different places at the same time, all creative versions created by the original self.
He said all that at length, but what he ultimately wanted to say is this. He used wave-particle duality as an example; what he actually wanted to tell us is: how do our counterparts come about? They come about in exactly this way. When entering Earth, this core consciousness energy breaks into many materialized, concrete divided forms, using local materials to form one physical body after another and becoming one life after another; these are your counterparts. They were originally different versions of an original self, creative versions.
At any given time--and he puts "time" in quotation marks--among all the people on your planet, biologically and spiritually, there exists a remarkable intimate cooperation.
Remember, it is all people, not only among counterparts. At any given moment--for example, right now, or ten years ago, or a hundred years later--it is the same. Why does he put time in quotation marks? Because ten years ago, a hundred years ago, and a hundred years later all happen simultaneously for him.
Let us speak in terms of Earth time: all people alive at any point in Earth time, whether materially or spiritually, have a remarkable close cooperation with one another.
Any event is like this.
Among all living people there is close connection and close cooperation. Whether in the outer physical body or in the inner psyche, you are all psychically connected. Because of this kind of inner connection:
A certain sense of identity and a sense of will are also maintained.
Your sense of identity as a human whole, and your sense of identity as an individual, are both maintained at the same time. You feel that you are an individual, and you also feel that you are part of humanity.
There are some psychic structures almost as effective as physical structures.
Some psychic structures are almost as effective as our physical structures, and these are the foundation of the reality of your objective world. Our physical world is composed of these psychic worlds; they blend together beautifully, forming an inner picture of the world at any given time. Even though that picture is constantly changing and always in motion, it can still form a picture.
Broadly speaking, the picture of your world at any given time can be compared to the position, behavior, and characteristics of an invisible particle caught when it intrudes into your own reality.
Its meaning is this: our world at any time has an inner, invisible overall picture. Because of the characteristic that all things are connected, all things, being connected, can together form an inner picture. This inner picture is like when we observe the movement of electrons and atoms: you cannot see them in themselves, but you can see their traces. It wants to tell you that this inner picture truly exists, but you cannot see it.
In dreams, space and time are expanded, but in a way you cannot precisely point to.
What he is saying is that when we dream of a scene, that scene actually has its past and future, but we cannot feel them in the dream. The same is true of our three-dimensional world--the expansion of space and the expansion of time are equally not understood by us. From the viewpoint of any other reality, our own exterior world and space are exactly the same as the dream world:
From the viewpoint of any other reality, your own exterior world and space also exist in exactly the same way.
That is to say, viewed from outside our reality, physical reality and the dream world are both created by us, and there is no difference in the method of creation. You can directly perceive the physical world with the outer senses, but as for the inner dream world, you can perceive it only by returning to the dream; once you return to waking reality, it disappears. But the creativity of the two is the same.
Next Seth talks about the issue of species and individuality:
You think of yourselves as members of a species, and at any given time, various races live together on your Earth in different proportions.
On Earth you are one of the races, such as Asian, Black, White, distributed in different numbers. At the same time, you also belong to specific groups, such as I am Chinese, he is Korean, he is American--none of this affects your cognition of your own individuality. You do not feel as if you have lost something or are threatened because you are a member of the Chinese nation.
He says this is because you also have an inner, psychic species, a psychic lineage. Just as after that original self enters, it branches out and forms many selves; these selves come from one common original self, and they count as a psychic group with shared attributes. Therefore, in addition to your physical belonging, you also have a psychic species.
Generally speaking, in the same era, every living person has his or her own other counterparts alive.
Any living person has some counterparts sharing the surface of the Earth. So there is a psychic, spiritual identity bank, and the people living in any given country are only a part of that inner bank, not the whole of it.
Every member of the human race is an individual, and every member of a psychic identity bank is also an individual.
You may not know what he is trying to say in this passage. He means that beyond belonging to certain countries, a certain nation, a certain skin color or race--these are all external and objectively existing--above this, beyond it, you still have a psychic race, a consciousness species, which transcends these things. In the physical human society, you are one individual after another; in the psychic identity bank, you are also one individual after another.
Then he reminds you:
When you think of these ideas, your concept of individuality limits you.
Because as soon as these things are mentioned, you inevitably use the concept of individuality to imagine it, and in your imagination individuality has boundaries:
You imagine individuality as a kind of psychic entity that must have definite boundaries, or it will lose its identity. Even the identity of the smallest consciousness is always maintained, but it is not confined.
When I say these things, many of you may mistakenly allow your imagination to be limited. You may think: physical individuality has boundaries; inside the skin is me, outside the skin is others. But when it comes to psychic individuality, you also feel it must have boundaries: Zhang San is Zhang San, Li Si is Li Si, with clear boundaries; you cannot say that this person is two-thirds Zhang San plus one-third Li Si, because then that person would not know who they are.
Seth emphasizes again here: every smallest consciousness has its own identity; it is not covered over or submerged by a larger gestalt of consciousness. He is especially afraid that you will lose individuality, so he keeps reassuring you: your individuality will not be destroyed; it is just that your perception that "individuality must have boundaries" is too limited.
He gives you a way to understand:
If you can think of your present concept of identity as one shape or one movement of a moving particle, a shape or movement that never loses its imprint or meaning, then you can also understand how you can follow it forward and backward and see the shapes and movements it has taken in the past or will take afterward.
If you think of the concept "who am I" as one movement, one shape, of a particle in this world, then this movement and this shape never lose their meaning. For example, take the single action of an electron jumping from a lower orbit to a higher orbit as Zhang San's whole life--from not yet jumping to the completed jump; that is Zhang San's entire life. Then you can both understand that this single jump has an indelible meaning, and you can also follow all the movement tracks of this particle. From the observer's viewpoint, its movement from A to B is called Zhang San, from B to C is called Li Si, from C to D is called Zhao Wu--three people are actually three different movements of the same particle. This particle is you, and those three movements are also you.
He again explains the relationship among counterparts, the consciousness species, the human species, and your individuality. He does not let you lean toward any single angle, so sometimes you find Seth's speaking tiring, precisely because he wants to maintain a middle-view state and not let you acquire a partial cognition.
So you can retain the identity you know yourself to be:
So you can retain the identity you know as yourself, and yet flow into a larger range and wave of reality.
You know that this single jump is your whole life, and that it is one of your identities; you also know that you are not only this one jump, and that you have a next movement. You see this from a higher angle, and you gain a larger sense of scope. That higher angle allows you to perceive your other movements, shapes, or versions. Although you are only this one jump, you can see countless such lives. You can become aware of a larger structure, and know that originally I am only one movement of this electron. But this does not diminish you, nor does it devalue the meaning of your present existence; on the contrary, it increases your knowledge and increases your experience of knowing this three-dimensional world. Before, you were immersed and knew nothing; now you can stand at a higher viewpoint and see your whole life--not making you feel small, but making you feel very great.
Perhaps you can do this through dream observation. In dreams, you continually create versions of yourself, having many dreams, and the self in each dream is somewhat different:
In the morning you are enriched, not diminished.
At night, in identities and environments impossible to realize in the daytime, you experience things that cannot be practiced in the daytime; this is not a reduction for you, but enrichment--you alone live the lives of several people.
Then Seth says to me humorously:
You are your own living version in time and space.
Your world revolves around this version. But the great potentials existing within the unknown self also actualize other focuses, and within the same space-time framework:
They are not you, just as you are not that Black man, that white woman, or that Indian woman, or that Chinese man.
The real you has formed your present living existence in the three-dimensional world. At the same time, the inner potentials of this existence itself--those great potentials within you that have not been developed here--maybe he could have been a painter or an athlete--these are not discarded; in the same time framework, in the same space-time, they develop those potentials through other identities. They are developing their potentials, and you are developing yours; all of them are part of the potentials of the real you.
Next Seth talks about the relationship between races and the psychic bank:
However, just as certain races have their own characteristics and common biological background, and come from the same biological bank, so these counterparts come from the same psychic bank, and in physical terms at any given time they seed the members of the race, in such a way that psychic abilities and inclinations are given a larger range and distributed across the Earth.
We can tell at a glance who is Chinese, who is European or American, who is Black; the biological backgrounds are different. But these counterparts come from the same psychic bank, just as the same Asians come from the same gene pool. At any particular time--and here time must be put in quotation marks, namely our three-dimensional world's time--it seeds the members of its own psychic race, allowing psychic abilities and inclinations to gain a larger range of development. Each person focuses on developing different areas and is then distributed across the Earth. It transcends the limitations of biological race; it is not saying that I am always male or always white; no--you can be of various skin colors, various races, various genders, various backgrounds, and various environments.
At this point in the session, the dictation ends. Unless you have questions. If there are no questions, he sincerely wishes you good night. After that, Seth also told Ruburt to read every day the material he had recently given, the part they had deleted at 11:40 in the previous session, because it was aimed at Ruburt personally, not at each of us, so it was not included.
Now let us look at the note Seth himself added. That note spans too much time difference with us, so I will not elaborate. He seems to be saying that scientists are studying their units of consciousness, but apparently they were not doing so, and did not study units of consciousness. He says the scientists who wrote to him indicated that they were familiar with Seth's ideas about this, and they earnestly said that some modern physicists were looking for a nonphysical particle; that belongs to certain theories, one of which, for example, is the quark. Actually at that time they were still studying the quark, and now they have long surpassed the level of the quark, with things smaller and smaller, so this should exist. If those theories are correct, then these hypothetical particles are mathematically existing entities that may influence the behavior of physical objects--those invisible particles actually exist only mathematically, but they influence our physical objects, the things beneath those physical objects. Later he is just quoting from Session 681, and I think we should not look at that again; it is all repetition.
He came back two months later and added a note. Looking back now, it is easy to see that when Seth was discussing the idea of counterparts, he was preparing the material on the Sumari family that began in January 1975. The long preceding discussion was laying groundwork, just as in Part Six, Session 732, the focus is on the Sumari family; he was laying that groundwork. Then he also talked about Session 687, and I will not go into that, because all of that has been said before. In the preface--the preface to Volume One--he said the following passage, and we should emphasize this sentence:
Here I would like to make clear that this book will open a journey in which what may seem familiar has been left far behind. But by the time I finish this course, I hope you will find that the known reality has become even more precious, and more real.
What he wants to say in this addition is this: our exploration of these unknown realities, our exploration of our dreams, our exploration of the feelings and experiences in different states of our consciousness, is not meant to weaken our knowledge of the three-dimensional world, nor is it meant to make us world-weary or to reject the three-dimensional world. On the contrary, it will make you feel that this three-dimensional world is more precious, and more real.
