Adjudicating experiment
“A subdivision of primary constructions” is a classificatory definition and cannot currently be adjudicated experimentally. If supplemented with the claim that “a fixed geometric or color transformation relates the afterimage to the stimulus,” approximately 100 participants could be recruited, each completing 200–400 trials measuring afterimage matching under different color, shape, and spatial background conditions over 6–9 months. The mirror-image transformation would be specified in advance, and its predictive performance on held-out data would be compared with that of cone adaptation and visual context models. This experiment would test only the specific transformation relationship.

What it would overturn
The classification itself does not overturn any specific scientific hypothesis; only additional quantitative predictions of transformations could potentially revise existing models of visual encoding.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
“Distorted mirror image” does not specify left–right reversal, complementary colors, phase inversion, or any other mathematical transformation, and is therefore no more specific than existing afterimage models.
Note
The different colors or distortions exhibited by negative afterimages cannot be interpreted as evidence for the existence of “another level of construction.”
