First require proponents to define the units of “vitality,” the amount transferred, and the completeness of the projection; fatigue cannot serve as a direct substitute. If vitality is restricted to metabolic energy, approximately 60 experienced individuals who report such experiences would each complete four conditions: out-of-body intention, ordinary motor imagery, relaxation, and natural REM sleep, with two repetitions per condition over a project period of 12–18 months. Record indirect calorimetry, electrocardiography, respiration, and electroencephalography simultaneously, pre-register the relationship between metabolic rate and completeness ratings, and establish an energy budget. A pilot experiment must confirm that the calorimetry mask itself does not interfere with induction.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
There is no conservation equation for vitality, measurement method, or external criterion for “completeness.” Reformulating vitality as metabolic rate is merely an operationalization requiring proponents' agreement and cannot be considered equivalent to the original proposition.
Note
A decisive experiment addressing the original concept of vitality cannot currently be designed. Changes in heart rate, oxygen consumption, or fatigue would not demonstrate that resources had been allocated to an extracorporeal vehicle.
