Research Program / Claims / beliefs-9

Beliefs are relatively more malleable in the so-called unconscious, and changing beliefs is easier in specific altered states of consciousness (e.g., free running), but in most cases still requires intervention at the level of the general ego.

信念在所谓无意识中相对更具可塑性,改变信念在特定意识状态(如自由运转)下更易,但多数情形下仍需一般自我层面的插入。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Preregistered 2×2 randomized experiment with about 480 participants: standard hypnotic induction / matched relaxation, crossed with cognitive reappraisal / neutral task, about 120 per group; training for 4 weeks, retest after 1 month. Measure explicit beliefs, behavioral choices, and suggestibility, matching treatment expectation; embed fear acquisition—extinction—next-day recall paradigm, record skin conductance and startle reflex, compare extinction rates with trial-level models, and distinguish immediate response inhibition, next-day retention, and fear recovery.
Suggested paper title
Hypnotic Induction and Cognitive Reappraisal in Belief Updating and Fear Extinction: A Pre-registered Factorial Trial
What it would overturn
If, after controlling for expectation, attention, and suggestion content, altered states of consciousness still independently improve learning rates, this would revise the hypothesis that 'belief change is fully explained by these factors, with no additional contribution from altered states of consciousness.'

Specificity of Seth's formulation
'Free running' and 'general ego intervention' lack operational definitions; using hypnosis and conscious reappraisal as substitutes are researchable approximations but do not automatically represent the unconscious as described in the original text.
Note
Addressing extended question 5: Existing evidence shows cognitive restructuring reduces conditioned fear, but weaker responses, faster extinction, and memory updating are three distinct conclusions requiring separate tests.
