Adjudicating experiment
As currently stated, no valid sample size or adjudication period can be specified because there is no indicator of conscious units independent of the original theory, nor equations for their interaction with matter. First, 6–12 months could be used to develop an explicit measurement model that yields quantitative predictions different from conventional physical models for biological materials, inorganic materials, and matched simulation systems; only if such predictions emerge would it be worth arranging blind tests involving about 3 laboratories, at least 100 independent samples per category, over 12–24 months. Complexity, electrical activity, or information integration alone cannot automatically determine that a material is conscious.

What it would overturn
If nonphysical conscious units were independently detected and demonstrated to have a causal role in constituting matter, this would challenge the assumption that material interactions are fully describable by physical degrees of freedom.
