Adjudicating experiment
No experiment can directly adjudicate the original proposition at present, because there is no independently verified criterion for atomic or molecular dream states. The first phase, lasting 6–12 months, is to develop a measurement theory that can distinguish subjective dream experience, thermal fluctuations, quantum dynamics, and ordinary information processing; only after obtaining such a criterion can atomic or molecular systems, controls, and power analyses be specified. Even repeating physical measurements about 10,000 times per condition can only test defined physical predictions, not automatically infer 'dreaming'.

What it would overturn
