Research Program / Claims / dreaming-self-2

The part that dreams and the part that breathes are the same "self," part of the complete self, not a separate personality that has been dissociated.

做梦的部分与呼吸的部分是同一个“我”,是完整自身的一部分,而非被分离出去的另一人格。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Recruit approximately 60 lucid dreamers, stratified by healthy controls and narcolepsy patients; each undergoes 4–6 experimental sleep sessions. Compare awake imagination and identical speaking/light motor imagery tasks during dreaming, with simultaneous EEG, EOG, respiration, ECG, and behavioral agency reports; use eye movements to mark task boundaries, examine cross-state transferability of physiological patterns, over approximately 12 months. This experiment can adjudicate whether intention and respiratory regulation in dreaming share functional mechanisms, but cannot adjudicate non-operationalizable self-identity.
Suggested paper title
Shared Respiratory Control Across Waking Imagery and Lucid REM Sleep
What it would overturn
Confirmation of functional coupling would not overturn the current integrated organism model; only further evidence could revise the narrower hypothesis that "REM-sleep respiratory changes are entirely produced by brainstem automatic processes."

Specificity of Seth's formulation
No prediction distinct from a brain–body integration model is provided; different functions being subserved by different neural circuits does not imply another personality.
Note
"Same organism," "shared neural regulation," and "same subject" are three different levels of questions; respiratory correlation cannot be used to infer subject ontology across levels.
Evidence (1, DOI-verified via Crossref)
  • REM sleep respiratory behaviours match mental content in narcoleptic lucid dreamers — Delphine Oudiette、Pauline Dodet、Nahema Ledard、Emilie Artru、Inès Rachidi、Thomas Similowski、Isabelle Arnulf (2018), Scientific Reports
    21名发作性睡病患者的研究显示,部分清醒梦中呼吸行为与梦内容相符,支持功能耦合,但不能证明哲学意义上的同一个“我”。[论文](https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-21067-9)
