Research Program / Claims / dreams-7

Dreams may be related to unused parts of the brain, involving non-physical mental properties; the innate knowledge of probability has a relationship to the brain similar to the distribution of memory.

梦可能与大脑中未使用的部分相关,涉及非物理心智特性;对概率的先天知识与大脑的关系类似于记忆分布。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Approximately 80 healthy adults, each for 4 nights of DC-coupled high-density EEG, plus about 20–30 patients with intracranial electrodes for clinical needs, each for 3–5 nights, project 18–24 months. Pre-register cross-night prediction of dream content and sense of reality from 0.01–0.1 Hz ultra-low-frequency potential shifts; simultaneously record eye movements, skin conductance, respiration, carbon dioxide, and electrode drift; compare waking imagery with the same sleep stages. If studying probability knowledge, additionally use a pre-specified statistical learning task to distinguish learned predictions from predictions of independent random events.

Infraslow Cortical Potentials and Dream Content: A Pre-Registered High-Density and Intracranial EEG Study
What it would overturn
Only if it is shown that the representations required for dreams come from an independent system that does not participate in any function during wakefulness will the model that dreams reuse brain networks for waking cognition be revised.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
It is unclear whether 'unused' refers to low activity, not yet scientifically recognized, or never participating in waking functions; probability knowledge similar to distributed memory also does not yield unique numerical predictions.
Note
The full compound claim has not been directly tested; if 'unused' is interpreted as large brain areas normally idle, that sub-claim conflicts with existing evidence; ultra-low-frequency neural potentials, even if associated with dream content, do not imply that cells or atoms themselves dream.
