Adjudicating experiment
Using the aforementioned public data, first test consciousness measurement error and model robustness, then conduct a pre-registered study with about 400 participants across multiple centers, each with two sessions of about 360 trials; manipulate masking strength and attentional gating, measure content retention, perceptual sensitivity, visibility, confidence, and final report, with EEG in a subsample. Total duration 12–18 months, using model comparison and intervention to test stage-to-stage transmission; to adjudicate "inner self → subconscious → outer self," three nodes must be measured separately; the same information pathway cannot be arbitrarily renamed.

What it would overturn
Unconscious information affecting reports is already accommodated in mainstream models; only by identifying an independent inner subject and a necessary buffer stage would the hypothesis that conscious access can be explained by subjectless neural information processing and gating mechanisms be revised.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
The description of information filtering overlaps with modern gating hypotheses; the source is called the inner self but adds no distinguishable predictions about latency, capacity, or type of transmittable content.

Existing evidence supports unconscious processing constrained by task boundaries; the complete source mechanism has not been directly tested; one cannot assert complete absence of consciousness merely because participants report "not seeing."
