Research Program / Claims / expectation-2

Expectations are formed by emotions; emotions have shape and substance in their own domain; expectations are the result of combinations of emotions.

期望由情绪形成,情绪在自身领域具有形体和实性,期望是情绪组合的结果。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Corresponding to Question 2: approximately 800 individuals are followed for 12 months, with quarterly sampling of emotions and event expectations three times daily for 14 days; pre-register random-intercept cross-lagged or dynamic structural equation models to distinguish between-person differences and within-person changes. Embed randomized emotion induction and separate expectation induction experiments with approximately 300 individuals to compare the two causal directions, controlling for actual events, sleep, and depressive symptoms. Observational structural equation models alone cannot establish causation; the 'substance' of emotions still requires an independent measurement definition.

Bidirectional Effects of Affect and Expectancy Updating: A Preregistered Longitudinal and Experimental Study
What it would overturn
Only if emotions are proven to be a necessary source for expectation formation would it revise the hypothesis that 'expectations can be formed through multiple routes, including statistical learning, explicit instruction, and emotion.'

Specificity of Seth's formulation
The unidirectional claim that 'emotions form expectations' is stronger than a bidirectional model, but does not specify combination rules for emotions; if any cognition is allowed to count as emotion, it loses discriminability.
Note
Partial evidence exists for emotional influences on learning; the full claim has not been directly tested; related teams currently study emotion, learning, and mental health. [Eldar Lab](https://sites.google.com/site/eldareran/), [Niv Lab](https://nivlab.princeton.edu/about/).
