Corresponding to Question 3: About 180 drivers undergo a randomized crossover experiment with fuel-saving, fuel-wasting, and neutral expectations; each condition is repeated twice with at least 48-hour intervals; using a chassis dynamometer, the same vehicle, and a standard speed profile, calibrated fuel mass flow, throttle, braking, gear, engine temperature, HRV, and respiration are recorded. An additional condition uses an automated driving cycle where participants merely ride, to distinguish mediation by driving behavior from no-manipulation effects; measurement and analysis are blinded; project duration about 9 months. Fuel consumption is preregistered as the sole primary endpoint, and an independent center replicates any anomalous result.

Only if fuel consumption changes after isolating the driving operation and other physical channels would it challenge the assumption that fuel consumption is determined by mechanical, combustion, and environmental conditions.
