Adjudicating experiment
Approximately 480 participants in a 2×2 design with random manipulation of professional authority cues and parental similarity cues of the guide; all receive the same suggestion script. Attachment, parenting history, and hypnotic suggestibility are measured beforehand; relationship experience, explicit expectancy, behavioral response, and involuntariness are assessed over two sessions one week apart; the primary test examines whether parental similarity produces a replicable incremental effect beyond general credibility, with replication in an independent sample.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
The parental substitute is more specific than a general authority effect and can be tested by orthogonal manipulation of parental similarity and professional credibility; however, this idea appears earlier in psychoanalytic and hypnotic relationship theories and is not a unique prediction.

Retrospective parenting questionnaires are affected by current mood and memory reconstruction; existing correlational evidence cannot support that 'all beliefs initially come from parents' or that 'all hypnotists necessarily become parental substitutes.'
