Corresponding to supplementary question 1: recruit approximately 450 patients with rheumatoid arthritis on stable medication, randomly assigned to 8-week emotion awareness and expression therapy, supportive intervention matched for credibility and contact time, or health education; continue standard treatment; blind assessment. Specificity of Seth's formulation
"Almost always" and "illness disappears" are clearly stronger than modern biopsychosocial models; one must predefine the proportion for "almost always" and clinical criteria for "disappears"; pain reduction cannot substitute for cure.
