Research Program / Claims / psychological-time-3

The experience of time in dreams resembles psychological time during solitary contemplation while awake, thereby proving that the waking ego and the sleeping ego are in fact the same self.

睡梦中的时间体验与醒时独处沉思时的心理时间相似,由此证明醒时自我与睡时自我实为同一自己。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Recruit 60–100 proficient lucid dreamers, each completing 4–6 nights of polysomnography as well as waking conditions involving solitary contemplation, psychological time practice, and rest. Predetermined eye-movement signals would mark the beginning and end of counting or actions in dreams, alongside measurements of post-awakening duration estimates, autobiographical memory continuity, and self-identity ratings. Equivalence bounds would be pre-registered, and cross-state models used for prediction. The project would take 12–18 months. This design can test continuity in temporal processing and self-representation, but similarity cannot logically establish a metaphysical “same self.”
Suggested paper title
Temporal Processing and Self-Representation Across Lucid Dreaming and Waking Contemplation
What it would overturn
Evidence of shared mechanisms across states would revise models that treat temporal processing in dreams and waking contemplation as entirely separate, but would not overturn the continuity of the individual across sleep and wakefulness already accepted by mainstream science.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
The claim does not specify whether similarity concerns the sense of time passing, duration, sequence, or memory, and provides no equivalence bounds. The inference “similar, therefore identical” lacks an independently testable bridging assumption.
Note
Timing data from lucid dreams cannot be directly generalized to ordinary dreams, and the length of dream narratives cannot directly measure the duration of experiences within dreams.
