For supplemental question 5, randomly assign about 180 people to mental imagery training for the backs of objects, a matched-expectation spatial task, and an active control; train for 8 weeks, 20 minutes per day, with a 3-month follow-up; about 90 people undergo pre-post fMRI, pre-registering analyses of visual cortex and parietal lobe, combined with binocular rivalry, mental rotation, and metacognitive measures. Additionally, include objects never seen before whose backs are randomly generated, to distinguish spatial inference from unknown-information acquisition; the entire project lasts about one year.

Imagining the backs of objects is a concrete training task, but training dose, transfer scope, or success criteria are not yet specified; “the secrets of the universe will be discovered in the mind” lacks an adjudicable endpoint.
