Research Program / Claims / waking-consciousness-12

In the waking state, dream experience is at the peripheral background position; symmetrically, in dreams, everyday experience is also peripheral.

醒时状态中,梦经验处于边缘背景位置;与此对称,梦境中日常经验亦为边缘。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
For supplementary question 3, first conduct a feasibility study with about 30 skilled lucid dreamers, then a confirmatory study with about 100 participants, 4–6 monitored nights each plus daytime experience sampling; project about 2 years. Predefine periphery as low overt reportability but retained priming or interference effects; compare waking priming by recorded dream content with recognition or interference in dreams by learned daily material, using voice questioning and eye-movement responses. Match content, time delay, salience, and familiarity; test whether standardized effects are symmetric using pre-registered equivalence bounds. Continuous flash suppression and bistable perception can serve as auxiliary waking tasks, but closed-eye REM cannot directly replicate binocular stimulus competition; imagining the same task in dreams does not guarantee measurement equivalence.
Suggested paper title
Cross-State Memory Accessibility and Attentional Prioritization During Wakefulness and REM Dreaming
What it would overturn
If strict bidirectional equivalence holds, it would revise models positing asymmetry in information accessibility between sleep and wake due to different sensory gating and memory retrieval conditions.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
The mirror symmetry is more specific than the general dream-wake continuity hypothesis, but the text does not specify whether it is attention, memory, phenomenal experience, or neural activity; one level must be fixed first.
Note
If continuous flash stimulation refers to continuous flash suppression, it actually manipulates visual visibility; this cannot directly measure whether dream experience persists in the background during wake, and conclusions from lucid dream samples still need verification in ordinary dreams.
