Research Program / Claims / waking-consciousness-2

Normal waking consciousness is discontinuous; within each hour it experiences about fifteen to fifty "blanks" or fluctuations, but it erases memories of these non-operational moments.

正常醒时意识是断续的,每小时内经历约十五到五十次“空白”或波动,但会抹去这些未运作时刻的记忆。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Pre-registered study with about 200 healthy adults, each undergoing 3 sessions of 2-hour high-density EEG, eye tracking, and sustained attention tasks; about 60 additionally undergo simultaneous EEG-fMRI; project about 12 months. Use random probes, immediate reactions, stimulus recognition, and delayed memory to jointly distinguish mind-wandering, absent-mindedness, microsleep, non-encoding, and forgetting; establish an incidence model accounting for missed detections and event durations, testing whether 15–50 times per hour holds across tasks. Pre-register default mode network, self-referential task-localized regions, and whole-brain connectivity indices, comparing windows before, during, and after blanks; fMRI localizes networks, EEG determines timing; default mode activation cannot infer another consciousness layer.
Suggested paper title
Frequency, Memory Consequences, and EEG–fMRI Correlates of Spontaneous Mind Blanking During Wakefulness
What it would overturn
If strictly confirmed, it would revise the continuity assumption that accessible conscious content always exists in normal waking, though that assumption is already contested.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
15–50 times per hour provides additional testability; but missing each duration and criteria, "memory erasure" is much stronger than existing mind-wandering evidence.
Note
contested applies to the whole claim with adjacent evidence but unresolved interpretation; the numeric frequency and active erasure mechanism remain untested directly; the percentage of random probe hits on blanks cannot be directly converted to hourly event counts.
