Research Program / Claims / psychometry-6

Physical properties of objects such as texture, material, and shape can become direct sources of psychometric data, e.g., rough texture producing the impression of 'coarse stiff short bristles'.

物体的质地、纹理、材质等物理属性可成为感应数据的直接来源,如粗糙质地产生“粗硬短须”印象。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Corresponding to supplementary question 4: approximately 300 participants, tested at two sites with about 48 stimuli orthogonally manipulating texture, material, and shape; each person randomly touches 24 of them, with three conditions: touch, view only, and invisible and untouchable; duration about 6 months. Blind raters code free reports, and a pre-frozen text model predicts physical features; train and hold out simultaneously by participant and object, testing excess prediction accuracy with permutation distributions. Owner backgrounds are independently randomly assigned to test whether the model predicts physical attributes or hidden background; 'rough → short bristles' must be listed as a specific prediction beforehand.
Suggested paper title
Predicting Object-Evoked Semantic Associations from Controlled Haptic Features
What it would overturn
Predictable associations during touch are consistent with sensory-semantic processing theory; only if random hidden attributes are still identified after complete isolation from relevant physical input would this challenge the explanation that semantic associations depend on sensory evidence and prior knowledge.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
The mapping of rough texture to short bristles is more specific than a vague association, but if derived post hoc it is not an independent prediction; replicating this mapping across participants and objects would add discriminative power.
Note
'Contested' refers to the generalizability of the effect from texture to a specific semantic impression; that physical properties can influence ordinary tactile perception is uncontroversial; anomalous historical information acquisition is not tested by these papers.
