Corresponding to supplementary question 5: approximately 180 participants are randomly assigned to 'imagined tactile envelopment of objects', conventional visual imagery, or attention training of equal duration, with 60 per group, training for 8 weeks and follow-up for 4 weeks; project duration 12 months. Before and after training, complete object backside inference, mental rotation, and visual imagery fMRI tasks, with pre-registered parietal, somatosensory, and visual cortex indicators. Two types of targets are used: objects whose backsides can be inferred from visible cues, and objects whose backside features are randomly generated and never presented; measure accuracy, reaction time, confidence, and cross-task transfer. Improvement on familiar information processing supports cognitive training; only reliable recognition of genuinely hidden random features tests new information acquisition; a mere BOLD decrease cannot be interpreted as neural efficiency increase.

What it would overturn
If after training participants can reliably identify random object features that were never perceived and cannot be inferred, it would overturn the assumption that information for object recognition comes from sensory input, memory, or inferable cues.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
'Studying with the mind' is not a new prediction per se, as introspection and imagery are already used in scientific methods; only if a specific practice claims to acquire information about unknown objects does it become distinguishable.
